I know this makes the anti-voting fandom big mad but this is only happening because Murphy was re-elected by a thin margin in November 2021, bucking a 40 year trend of Democratic governors losing re-election in NJ, because enough people voted for him

Remember, people who have a victim complex about voting:

PSA, there’s a really nasty Discord scam going around rn. If one of your friends DMs you, starting off with a simple “hello” “how are you”, may even joke around a little, and then starts asking you to look at a game/project they’re working on, don’t click the link, don’t download anything. If you can reach that friend through non-Discord means, reach out and let them know they got hacked.

One of my friends said the link takes them to a very convincing video game page that has in-game screenshots and stuff, and then gives you an option to download a playtest zip file or something. That download exploits a weakness Discord apparently has for password protected zip files and steals your Discord log-in and changes your account info to the scammer’s account info. Two of my friends lost their accounts. Be careful.

Slight adjustment to this… Apparently the virus scrapes all your passwords and files on your computer, not just Discord… It just uses Discord to gain access… Friend had a picture of his license saved on his computer, and apparently the scammers even got their hands on that… So it’s a nasty little hack…

poor things, well we should definitely make this easier on them by never repeatedly mentioning their name and deeds on the “reblog things forever” website

Also shoutout to my manager in the (remote) meeting this morning saying “I didn’t even realize covid was a thing anymore” with his brand new case of covid that is making him feel sicker than he has ever felt in his life (except the last time he had covid).

This is the manager who refused to get a vaccine and isolated as much as he could but one of his kids brought covid home and made him so sick that he was hospitalized. Then he refused to get a vaccine because he thought he’d have immunity since he’d had covid and stopped isolating because it was “like he was vaccinated.”

Covid is still here, there’s yet another omicron variant fucking people’s shit up right now in August 2023, cases are on the rise, MASK AND GET VACCINATED AND ISOLATE YOURSELF FOR 10 DAYS AFTER THE SYMPTOMS END

We keep getting new mutations because of every. single. person. who acts like covid doesn’t exist and then gets covid.

So, for anyone interested, you can totally get a booster shot, right now. I got mine last week, and my arm ached at the site for three days, that that was it. (YMMV, talk to your doctor or pharmacist, yadda yadda disclaimer)

I checked on this yesterday and basically for people in the US if you are under 65 and not immune compromised and you have had a single dose of the bivalent booster you’re considered up to date on boosters; if you’re over 65 you can get a second bivalent booster 4 months after the first one if you’re immune compromised you can get a second bivalent booster 2 months after the first one.

Most people are not up to date; the state with the highest number of people current on their boosters is Vermont and that’s at about 36%; the national average is 17%. There is apparently discussion of a new bivalent booster in the fall but there have been no announcements about whether a booster will be available or on what schedule.

There is still a CDC data tracker for this, though it is less granular and clear than tracking was before May 2023 when the Covid emergency was “ended” in the US, but there is information about case counts and wastewater tracking. The thing that I think is most immediately comprehensible data are these maps of the rate of positive tests for covid.

Here’s the map for the last four weeks:

image

And here’s the map for the last week:

image

So we went from all of the country reporting positive rates under 10% and some places reporting under 5% to having none of the country over 5% and a pretty significant area reporting over 10%.

Covid hospitalizations have also increased 12.5% in the last few weeks (though nationally that number is under 10,000 for now) and another good visualization is the percent of change of hospitalizations by county:

image

some places are reporting substantial decreases in hospitalizations, but there are a lot that are reporting substantial increases in hospitalizations so.

You know. Keep masking, maintain good social distancing, get a booster if you haven’t yet, wash hands frequently. Etc etc etc.

white Americans dying on the hill of defending the politics of Oppenheimer as a film is so embarrassing to me

They’re all being like “making a movie about something doesn’t glorify it” and no it doesn’t do so inherently but a Christopher Nolan Hollywood biopic starring cillian Murphy fucking the blonde bombshell of the hour on screen kind of does lol

And like yea criticism that it doesn’t include a Japanese perspective might not be the right angle to bring critique but obviously the center of that critique isn’t “they should’ve done random cuts to Japan” it’s “a Hollywood movie starring twenty modern beloved sex symbols which goes to great length to dwell on and explore the hurt feelings, loves, and dreams of the people responsible for one of the United states’ greatest atrocities is in poor taste”

I have not seen Oppenheimer, nor do I plan to. So far, its reception sounds like a raging pie fight between a few hundred intensely pissed off clowns in the next room, and I do not want to go in there.

I’m always hesitant to watch movies about “real events” because when I look it up it’s always like “here’s some fun differences between the Baron Fulmen movie and the way it happened in real life!

1. Baron Fulmen’s favorite color is actually green, not blue!

2. The events of the movie actually took place over the course of fifteen years, rather than happening all on the same day like in the film.

3. The scene where Baron Fulmen bravely risks his life to get all the orphans out of the burning building was altered slightly. In reality this was done by Joe Boots, who died from smoke inhalation after saving the last orphan. His last wish was that someone continue his legacy of 50 years of dedicated charity work helping exploited communities and chronically ill children.

4. To give audiences a villain, Joe Boots was instead portrayed as a petty, violent, greedy monster and all perceived slights Baron Fulmen ever suffered at any point in his life were attributed to Boots. In reality they only met once, when Boots saved Fulmen from being eaten by a grizzly bear.

5. In the film, Baron Fulmen powers his invention with pollution thereby saving the world from climate change. While this is something he promised investors, in reality it was powered by the souls of tortured orphans (which is why Fulmen lit that building full of them on fire) and produced a million tons of toxic chemicals per day.

6. Jane Doe and Baron Fulmen did date, but rather than getting married as in the film Jane filed a restraining order against Fulmen due to horrific domestic abuse.

7. Baron Fulmen’s dog was actually a pug/Chihuahua mix rather than being a golden retriever.”

Everyone is nostalgic and no one is sincere. Do you get the idea

Reboots made by people that don’t respect what they’re rebooting. Punching down before buzz feed listicles punch first. Isn’t it weird that the princess married the prince after just meeting him? Isn’t it cringe that magic exists? Irony poisoning of childhood classics. Well that just happened humour. Say something true and beautiful or I will start throwing rocks
